Honoring the Past: Unique "Something Old" Ideas for Your Wedding Day

Tradition calls for "something old" as part of a bride's wedding day attire. Check out my list below for a few ideas to consider.

Think outside the box, and don't limit yourself to attire when it comes to this tradition!

  1. A vintage family jacket or shawl

As soon as we chose a December wedding date, I knew I wanted to wear this special fur jacket, which belonged to my Nana's mom, for some photos, as "something old."

Another equally special "something old" in this photo is my necklace, which I had custom made with one Schultz family diamond and one passed down on my Grandma Munzenberger's side of the family. Which brings me to my next idea...

  1. Jewelry from mom, grandma, or an aunt

Wearing jewelry from a special woman in your life not only honors that family member, but adds a sentimental touch to your wedding look. I'm willing to bet you'll think of them each time you see your wedding portraits!

Whether it's a bracelet, earrings, or a necklace, a piece of jewelry carries with it precious history, making it the perfect "something old" for your big day.

  1. A classic car for transportation

Ride from your ceremony to reception in style! Talk about chic, glamorous, and an unforgettable way to get from A to B on your wedding day. Not to mention the photo opportunities for you and your guests.

  2. An old/classic song for your first dance

Maybe it's a romantic song from your parents' era (although it's a hard pass for me on the tunes of the late-80s... sorry Mom and Dad!), or just a classic song that hits home for the two of you. Choosing an old song for your first dance is a special way to honor the past while creating a beautiful memory to start your future together.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for future posts filled with ideas for "something new," "something borrowed," and of course, "something blue!"
